ForKids Donation Drive Was A Success

At Hatcher & Frey Orthodontics, we believe supporting our community is just as important as transforming smiles. This summer, we proudly partnered with ForKids, a local nonprofit serving families experiencing homelessness and housing crisis, for a special back-to-school supply drive across all five of our HFO locations.

From June 23 through August 1, our offices turned into collection hubs, inviting patients, parents, and neighbors to drop off essential school supplies for local students. And wow—did our community deliver!

Why We Partnered with ForKids

Back-to-school season should be filled with excitement instead of stress. However, for many families in Hampton Roads, affording supplies like backpacks, lunch bags, notebooks, and calculators can be challenging. ForKids works year-round to end the cycle of homelessness and poverty. This drive gave us an opportunity to directly support local children by equipping them with the tools they need to succeed in school.

What We Collected

Thanks to the generosity of our patients and staff, we were able to gather an incredible assortment of essential school supplies, including:

  • Backpacks & lunch bags
  • Writing supplies: pencils, crayons, markers, highlighters
  • Notebooks, loose-leaf paper & index cards
  • Folders, binders & dividers
  • Tools like scissors, glue sticks and calculators
  • Hygiene items like hand sanitizer and tissues

We also encouraged donors to contribute through ForKids’ Amazon Wishlist for convenient, direct shipping. Every item, big or small, helped fill a student’s backpack with possibility.

More Than Smiles

At Hatcher & Frey, we believe community care and orthodontic care go hand-in-hand. Whether it’s through school supply drives, fulfilling teacher wishlists, or supporting local youth sporting events and organizations, we’re always looking for ways to give back.

Our patients aren’t just smiles to us. They’re our neighbors, friends, and family. Being supportive and helping to uplift our community is what makes our work so rewarding.

We’re incredibly proud of what we accomplished together during this year’s drive. We saw firsthand how compassionate and generous our patients and staff can be and we’re grateful for each and every person who contributed. Let’s keep the momentum going and continue showing up for our community, not just during back-to-school season, but all year long.
