Norfolk, Va – Smiles for all. That’s what Hatcher & Frey Orthodontics is hoping to bring to the #757 community with their new OnieTonie™ brand partnership.
As part of the Hampton Roads community since 1998, Hatcher & Frey knows a thing or two about smiles. They’ve successfully treated generations of families locally – as well as played a role in key community sponsorships with such organizations as the YMCA of South Hampton Roads, Chesapeake United Soccer Club and Coastal Crush Lacrosse. Their newest approach to smiles? Local art.
“As we approached the 1-year anniversary of our Norfolk Studio just outside the Norfolk Premium Outlets, we knew we wanted to do more than traditional marketing in that space,” Nikki Zellner, Community Relations Director for the brand said. “It’s been a really tough year for our community, and it was just really important for us to do something that not only supported our brand, but supported local business and our community.”
Zellner, a mom of two boys, said when she thinks of the culture of the #757 – she thinks of public, accessible art – that’s free for all.
“I wanted to take that same approach – what can we create for the community, not just for us. And that’s when I approached the team about courting Troy Summerell.”
Summerell, a local artist who goes by the name OnieTonie™ on his work, is known for his large, bold murals of sea life scenes across the Hampton Roads community.
“There isn’t an OnieTonie™ mural or sculpture me and my boys haven’t posed in front of – and when everything was closed during the pandemic – his art wasn’t,” Zellner said.
Summerell’s original water-loving characters and scenes can be seen on ambulance wraps and walls for CHKD, and he has done creative, engaging work for the Roc Solid foundation, local schools, and the Smile Train Organization.
“OnieTonie™ has a commitment for kids, families and smiles,” Zellner said. “There was only one name on the list for me.”
The Hatcher & Frey Orthodontics partnership with OnieTonie™ will include many elements – some available for the community to experience, and some available exclusively to patients.
The first elements of the partnership were made public in late June, with more to follow. First, a billboard went up on Shore Drive just past the Lesner Bridge in Chix Beach, followed by two full-size mural installations at their Norfolk Premium Outlets office – both key tourist destinations for those visiting, as well as hot spots for the locals.
“What a way to welcome people to the area,” Zellner said. “By putting a smile on their face, and showing them what the area is all about.”
