Top 3 Mouthwashes for Daily Use

| Scott Frey |

Last week we discussed the ingredients that make up an ideal mouthwash for daily use, and today I am going to share with you the top three mouthwashes for day to day use on the market today that fit those principles. Naturally, this list will change in the future as mouthwash formulations change and more information becomes available.

Carifree Maintenance Rinse

pH: 8.1
Mint
Active Ingredients: Sodium Fluoride 0.05%
Inactive Ingredients: Menthol, Natural Flavors, Polysorbate 20, Potassium Sorbate, Sodium Benzoate, Sodium Bicarbonate, Water, Xylitol

Citrus
Active Ingredients: Sodium Fluoride 0.05%
Inactive Ingredients: Natural and Artificial Flavors, Polysorbate 20, Potassium Sorbate, Sodium Benzoate, Sodium Bicarbonate, Water, Xylitol

This is as close to the ideal mouthwash available right now. It contains fluoride, has an alkaline pH, is alcohol-free, and has little to no tooth staining potential. This rinse is available to order through Carifree’s website.

Therabreath

pH: 9.0
Ingredients:
Purified Water , OXYD-8 , PEG-40 Hydrogenated Castor Oil , Tetrasodium EDTA , Sodium Bicarbonate , Sodium Benzoate , Essential Oil of Peppermint , Sodium Hydroxide
It has a very alkaline pH, is alcohol-free, has essentially no tooth staining potential because of it’s oxidative ingredients, and is great for bad breath. This oral rinse is available in stores.

ACT Total Care Dry Mouth Soothing Mint

pH: 6.2
Active Ingredients: Sodium Fluoride 0.02% (.009% w/v Fluoride ion)
Ingredients:
Water , Glycerin , Sorbitol , Xylitol , Poloxamer 407 , Betaine , Propylene Glycol , Flavors , Bisabolol , Carnosine , PEG-14M , Zingiber Officinale Root Extract (Ginger) , Angelica Polymorpha Sinensis Root Extract , Lonicera Japonica Flower Extract (Honeysuckle) , Pueraria Lobata Root Extract , Sodium Benzoate , Potassium Sorbate , Sodium Phosphate , Disodium Phosphate , Polysorbate 20 , Lactic Acid , Calcium Disodium EDTA , Cetylpyridinium Chloride , Sucralose , Green 3 , Yellow 10

It contains fluoride, has fairly close to a physiologic pH compared to many over the counter mouth rinses, is alcohol-free, and has reduced tooth staining potential because of low concentrations of CPC. This mouth rinse is available in stores.
